Summer Research Opportunities
Announcing Summer Research Stipends in the Department of Microbiology
Stipends of $3,200 will be available to up to four students to pursue summer research projects in research labs associated with the Department of Microbiology at the University of Tennessee. Sophomore and junior students, intent on a research-oriented career, are invited to apply to the department for this award to support summer research through the upcoming (May - August) summer session. Although open to all students, priority will be given to students intending to turn their summer research into a research project (Microbiology 400 or 401) or senior honors thesis (Microbiology 401 and 402) during 2008 or 2009. Supplemental support will be available to allow students to present the results of their study at a regional or national meeting.
MERIT CRITERIA
- Desire to turn research into a research project or senior honors thesis.
- The student’s standing at The University of Tennessee.
- Nature of the research project and availability of support from the sponsoring lab.
Students interested in applying for this award should write a letter addressing the merit criteria mentioned above and attach a recent transcript and a letter of support from the potential sponsoring Microbiology faculty member. Submit this material to the Department of Microbiology no later than April 7, 2008. Successful applicants will be notified of the outcome of the competition by April 21, 2008.
